Koto ni naru (past tense - natta)

Meaning

  • It will be decided
  • turn out that
  • come about

In general an event that takes place as if spontaneously, without speaker's control

formation:

Experiencer

Watashi wa rainen Osaka ni tenkin-suru koto ni natta

It was decided that I will be transfered to Osaka next year.

Place

Nihon de wa kuruma wa? michi no hidarigawa o hashiru koto ni natteiru

In Japan cars are supposed to drive on the left side of the street

Note

ni natteiru is used if something was decided in past and it is still in effect

Examples

Watashi wa raigetsu kara kaisha ni tsutomeru koto ni natteiru

It has been decided that I will be employed at the company next month

Tabun John-san wa Nihon de eigo o oshieru koto ni naru deshoo

Perphaps it will turn out that John will teach english in Japan

Kyoo Yamada san ni au koto ni natteimasu

Today (it was arranged) that I am seeing yamada san
