(do and see)

kiru (to cut) - kitte + miru -> kittemiru

okonomiyaki o hajimete tabetemita kedo、totemo oishikata！

I tried eating okonomiyaki for the first time and it was very tasty!

osake o nondemimashita ga、sugoku nemuku narimashita。

I tried drinking alcohol and I became extremely sleepy.

To attempt to do something

1) volitional + to suru

ru verbs = ru -> you (taberu -> tabeyou, miru -> miyou)

u verbs = u -> o + u (iku -> ikou, miru -> miyou)

suru - shiyou

kuru - koyou

Mainichi, benkyou o sakeyou to suru

(transitive) sakeru/yokeru - to avoid

Muriyari ni - forcibly, against one's will

muriyari ni heya ni hairou to shiteiru - He is attempting to force his way into the room.

お酒を飲もうとしたが、奥さんが止めた。 osake o nomou to shita ga okusan ga tometa (notice tomeru instead of tomaru)

He tried to drink alcohol but his wife stopped him.

Instea of to suru we can use to omou or to kimeru

勉強をなるべく避けようと思った。

I thought I would attempt to avoid studying as much as possible.

毎日ジムに行こうと決めた。

Decided to attempt to go to gym everyday.
